About Lilou's
Lilou’s started with something simple: missing the taste of home. Our founder, Jalil, or Lilou, as we call him, grew up in Morocco eating Amlou. It was always around: at breakfast, on bread, shared with family, part of those everyday moments you don’t think much about until you move away from them.

When Lilou moved to the U.S., he quickly realized that he couldn’t find anything that tasted quite like the Amlou he grew up with. For years, his girlfriend—now his wife, Yasmina—would bring jars back from Morocco whenever she came to visit. They both knew there was nothing quite like it here, but sometimes you need a little nudge. That nudge came when Lilou’s best friend Millet, who grew up in Dallas, came to visit. Lilou and Yasmina showed him around, introduced him to Amlou, and Millet had the same reaction: how does something this good not really exist in the U.S.?
That was the push they needed. Instead of waiting for the next suitcase from Morocco, Lilou decided to learn how to make it himself. On a trip back home, he traveled south and spent time learning everything he could about Amlou: its history, its ingredients, the roasting, the texture, and all the little details that make it what it is. The recipe stayed simple, just like the Amlou he remembered: roasted almonds, argan oil, and honey. Three ingredients, nothing unnecessary.

That’s how Lilou’s came to life. Born in Morocco and now made in Austin, Lilou’s is our way of bringing a little piece of something we love from where we come from into the everyday moments we share here. It’s not another almond butter. It’s Amlou, a recipe rooted in culture and heritage, made with simple ingredients, and made to be good to your tummy too.
